A Few Pottery Painting Fun & Easy Techniques
Sponge Painting
You may use your sponge to directly apply the colored glaze to your pottery. This results in a very nice "textured" appearance after kiln firing, and you can vary the texture density and mix colors.

Dots
You may use the other end of your brush to paint on clean, uniform dots. Only one coat is required, and this is a very fast and easy method to cover your pottery with colorful dots!
Splatter Paint
You may coat the bristles of a tooth brush with the colored glaze, and then slide your thumb across the brush while directing the spray toward your pottery. This creates a coat of very tiny dots of colored glaze that provides a nice textured background appearance.

Draw Patterns
You may use a pencil to directly trace a pattern onto your pottery, and the graphite will completely burn away during kiln firing. Do not erase if you make a mistake with the pencil, just draw it again. Before painting over pencil marks, dust it off again with the slightly damp sponge to remove any large pieces of graphite.
Finger Prints
Just dip your finger tip in paint and Spraying with tooth brush.

Painting with cotton bud / swab
You can try one of the easiest techniques using a cotton bud. Dip the bud in colour and put dots side by side in any fashion and create designs in different shapes as circles, triangles, diamond shape, etc. or simply write your name. Use as many colours you want. See the beautiful shaped effects that you can beautifully create by intermixing two colours in a single dot.
Engraving
Apply colour with a brush on the surface and let dry for 2 minutes. While the colour is little dry, using the back of a brush / toothpick, create designs of your choice. Engrave patterns with a toothpick / piece of comb by laying different shades besides each other.

Flow / Blow techniques
Apply few drops of different shades of colour with brush on the surface. Move the object up, down or sideways or blow the colour with mouth and let it flow freely to create unique beautiful patterns.
Brush Effects
Create various types of floral and abstract designs using different types of brushes such as round, flat or fan brush. Do simple filling inside a design, try shading by mixing two colours, make beautiful landscapes and trees with stippling (dotted) technique using the flat and fan shaped brushes. You can also try the effect of dry brush techniques.
