TIP 1
Prepare the Pottery
Before you begin painting, take a sponge and get it only slightly damp with clean water Wipe off your pottery to remove large dust particles because these can cause the colored glaze to pull away from the pottery during the kiln firing process. Be sure that your pottery does not get too wet because soaked-in water will keep the colored glazes from adhering. Dry with hair dryer for a while.

TIP 2
Paint with Multiple Coats
For a solid, even coat of color, apply thin coats of paint. Thick paint causes the glaze to blister and peal. Mix the paints properly before applying on surface. After applying the first coat allow the paint to fully dry (it air dries reasonably quickly, but you may use a hair dryer to speed up the process) before applying the next.

TIP 3
Dark Colors over Light Colors
If you want to overlap colors by painting one color on top of another color, it is always best to have the background color be lighter than the foreground. This is because darker colored glazes tend to bleed through lighter colors, and the lighter color will not show up clearly.

| TIP 4
Unpainted Surfaces
Before we kiln fire your pottery, we will coat the entire piece with a clear "over glaze" that will seal the entire piece and provide a glassy, clear surface. Any area left unpainted will have the natural white coloring of the ceramic.
